I did not think self-love in that capacity. Still this seems to me pretty superficial, self-centered and hedonistic. It is more like the philosophy that popular Hollywood movies endorse. Love yourself, say “I love you”, do not care what others think about you, forgive yourself, pursue pleasure and freedom.
    What do you think?

Yes , sometimes it is that way. But I don’t think it is realistic. being in peace and loving nature and animals and try not to harm you and take care of yourself and your family and friends these are the important things and not to be a bad person.

Martin Seligman classifies three types of life in his TED talk: pleased life, life of engagement and meaningful life. Self love is closer to the first category. However, I think the others offer a more conscious and meaningful way of living.
His talk is rather long for a TED talk and moves a little slowly. Still, if you have any time, you might find it interesting: http://www.ted.com/talks/martin_seligman_on_the_state_of_psychology.html

Thanks so much.I will definitely watch it.
I totally agree with you in so many ways .Thats why I asked my question earlier. I also realized egoistic self love promotion has its agenda behind it. Business of course. New Age movement is nothing to do again being spiritual so on…. there is a big agenda and purpose of these movement again and it is very ugly .

i am not sure if it can be taken as a movement per se. however, it certainly has a philosophy behind it. a philosophy which takes human nature in a limited way, in its corporeality alone, taking the spiritual aspect for granted. it urges everyone to follow their instincts, desires and pleasures. these are mostly lower pleasures, though. it does not even take into account what John Stuart Mill called higher or noble pleasures.

Thanks for replies. I really fed up from these people. They are taken advantage of others. However there is not much we can do .

I follow a Gandhian motto: “Be the change you wish to see in the world” 🙂
